PK Tip: Dragging Keywords to Locate Related Articles

In Personal Knowbase, the usual way to locate an article related to a topic of interest is to "select" a keyword for that topic. For example, to see all your articles related to fish, you move the keyword fish from the Index column to the Selected column in the Index Window.

But if you already located an article on your topic, you can quickly locate related articles by dragging keywords from the article instead of from the full keyword Index. This is especially useful as your keyword Index list grows larger and more difficult to browse.

You can drag articles' keywords from two places into the Selected Column:

1) The Article Window

You can quickly pull up a list of articles related to the same keyword(s) as your current article by dragging keywords from an Article Window's Keywords list into the Index Window's Selected column.

For example, if you're looking at a recipe for tuna casserole, you could drag the keywords fish and/or casserole from the Article Window to the Index Window.

2) The Preview Pane

Similarly, you can drag keywords from the Index Window's Preview Pane into the Selected column without ever leaving the Index Window.

If you aren't showing the Preview Pane, you can turn it on using the Preview Pane command from the View menu. Use its Show Keywords option. Then when you highlight an article's title in the Titles column, the Preview Pane shows the keywords for that article. You can highlight and drag one or more keywords from this Preview Pane into the Selected column to instantly "select" those keywords and list related titles.

In the example above, you would highlight the tuna casserole recipe in the Titles column, then drag its keywords fish and/or casserole to the Selected column.

Note that if you highlight multiple article titles in the Titles column, you can reduce the list of keywords shown in the Preview Pane to only those common to all highlighted articles. For example, if you highlight your recipes for tuna casserole and chicken casserole, the keyword fish would no longer appear in the Preview Pane, but the keyword casserole would still appear. You can then drag this keyword to the Selected column to find the articles related to all of the highlighted articles.
