Specifies whether the Index column of the Index Window lists all keywords in the data file or lists only the keywords related to the articles currently listed in the Titles column. The option currently in use is checked.
Select one of the following options from the cascading menu.
Index Mode options:
Show All Non-Selected Keywords
The Index column lists all keywords in the data file which have not been moved to the Selected column.
When this option is used, the header of the Index column indicates "All" mode.
Show Only Related Keywords
The Index column lists only the keywords which are assigned to at least one article currently listed in the Titles column. If no titles are listed, then no keywords are shown in the Index column.
This option allows you to quickly see which keywords you can select (move to the Selected column) to further pare down your list of Titles.
When this option is used, the header of the Index column indicates "Related" mode.
When the Selected Keyword Mode is OR, this option is not available.
NOTE: | In either Index Mode, if keyword groups are highlighted in the Keyword Groups column, then the keywords in the Index column are also limited to members of the highlighted keyword groups. |
Example:
You have 3 articles bookmarked and you specify to only Show Bookmarked Titles:
Article 1) Keywords: bear, cat, dog
Article 2) Keywords: cat, dog
Article 3) Keywords: bear, dog, fish
With the Index Mode set to Show All Non-Selected Keywords, you see all keywords in the Index, including, perhaps horse and gerbil.
With the Index Mode set to Show Only Related Keywords, you see only the 4 represented keywords in the Index: bear, cat, dog, and fish.
If you select the keyword cat by dragging it to the Selected column, now only Articles 1 and 2 are listed under Titles (if there are no other articles with the keyword cat assigned to them). With the Index Mode still set to Show Only Related Keywords, you now see only bear and dog in the Index column, since they are the only other keywords besides cat assigned to the listed articles.
To get the full keyword list back, set the Index Mode back to Show All Non-Selected Keywords.
The keyboard shortcut F9 switches the Index column between "All" and "Related" modes.
