This is the second step of the Column Data Import Wizard. You have specified that your import file's fields are in fixed positions on each line. You need to specify where each column of data starts. You can specify the columns by typing them into the Column Positions edit box or by clicking on the columns in the File Preview pane.
Select the Back button to return to the previous step of the wizard. Select the Next button to go to the next step of the wizard. Select Cancel to stop the import process.
Delimited File
This is the full path and file name of the file you are importing.
Column Positions
Enter the character positions of the start of each data column in your file, separated by spaces or commas. Wait a moment after you stop typing for vertical lines to appear in the File Preview pane corresponding to the column positions you have entered.
Clear Columns Button
Click this button to remove all numbers from the Column Positions edit box and start over.
File Preview and Ruler
Your import file is displayed. Data will not be imported from the grayed lines. Select the Back button to change which line the data starts on.
To add a number to the Column Positions edit box, click on the ruler at the corresponding position. Use the horizontal scroll bar to reach any columns which are not originally visible in the pane. A small triangular marker appears on the ruler at your selected position, and a vertical line extends downward from it showing how the data will be delimited.
To modify a column position, click on this triangular marker and drag it to a new position. To delete a column position, click on the marker and drag it outside the ruler, or edit the numbers in the Column Positions box.
Unprintable characters, such as tabs, may appear as small boxes:
Note: | You should indicate all data columns in your file on this screen. In the next step of the wizard, you will be able to choose to ignore some data columns if they are not needed for your imported articles. |
