Installing on a Removable Drive

To install Personal Knowbase on a removable device (such as a USB drive or flash memory card):

Insert the removable device in its drive.

Run the Personal Knowbase setup program.

If you are installing from a downloaded file, the setup program is PKSETUP.EXE. Run PKSETUP.EXE.

On the third installation screen, in the Destination Folder box, click on the Browse button.

From the Select Destination Directory dialog box, use the drop-down menu at the bottom to select the drive letter of your portable device.

Click the OK button to return to the main installation window.

Click the Next button.

The installation program pops up a dialog box asking you to verify that you want to create a portable installation. Click Yes.

Note:  If you don't see this verification message, then Windows does not think that your drive is removable. In that case, please see the alternate instructions for Forcing a Portable Installation.

Special options for portable installation are provided. Check the boxes next to the optional files that you want to install.

All of these files are installed with a normal installation, but you may want to omit some of them to save space on a removable drive.

In Windows XP and Vista only:  If you select the option for Automatically start Personal Knowbase when portable drive is connected, an AUTORUN.INF file will be added to your removable drive. This file causes Personal Knowbase to automatically start up whenever the device is connected to a computer or when the icon for the drive is double-clicked in Windows Explorer. Do not select this option if another application already has an AUTORUN.INF file on this device.

Click the Next button.

Click the Install button to complete the installation.

When the installation has copied the necessary files, click the Finish button.
